Williams was chosen for his prime combination of competition and philanthropy, two ideals the Battle for Bean Street stands for. Not only does he hold the title of Most Outstanding Player of the 1993 Final Four championship games, but he is also recognized by many as an outstanding member of the Triangle-area community as the founder and coach of the Donald Williams Basketball Academy.

Buzz ensued around UNC fans prior to the chance to meet Donald Williams as Largemouth worked with UNC Athletics and UNC Build a Block, UNC's student-led beneficiary charity, to help spread the word among Tar Heel fans and UNC students.(Almost 400 people "liked" the event on North Carolina Tar Heel's Facebook page.)

The event was also successful in garnering coverage for the Battle for Bean Street in targeted local publications, including a featured interview entitled, "Garner Alum Donald Williams supports UNC's Build a Block," in the Garner Citizen (Garner is William's hometown) and an upcoming feature on Carolina Week, a student newscast produced by UNC students.

Since the event, UNC's numbers in the Battle for Bean Street have skyrocketed past NC State, who they had been battling neck-to-neck with for months. Thanks to the Donald Williams event, UNC is 1,200 cups in the lead and counting!

Now the $20,000 question is: Will next week's NC State celebrity event with Chris Corchiani and Will Roach put NC State back on top?
