Just because I'm not fluent in Spanish, doesn't mean my clients can't reach out to the Spanish media. Sure, I can speak Dora the Explorer with the best of 'em, but when it comes to media relations, better Spanish-speaking skills are necessary.

While preparing the media relations plan for a recent anti-counterfeiting conference in Madrid, Spain, my client and I decided to partner with a Madrid-based PR agency and utilize their media contacts and language skills for outreach to the local media.

Through this partnership, we garnered media attention in outlets we never could have reached without the local agency's help. We worked seamlessly together – I created the press materials, Madrid translated them and pitched to their media contacts without getting "lost in translation". We set up on-site media interviews for my client with the assistance of a translator. We held weekly conference calls leading up to the conference and even shared PR best practices with each other.

It was interesting to see how PR practices are similar even "across the pond." Working with another agency, doesn't mean working with the enemy. We're all professionals with one goal in mind – doing the best work for our clients.

We've also used this working model for other events in Hong Kong and currently in Panama where the language is a barrier. It was actually a great experience with great people! And, Largemouth received kudos from our client for "playing nice in the sand box."
