I must say I've thoroughly enjoyed organizing in-store events at Kangaroo Express locations across the Triangle to support UNC and Duke in the Battle for Bean Street. We recently had the pleasure of working with the "Voice of the Blue Devils" Bob Harris and former UNC player and 1993 NCAA champion, Donald Williams - who also happens to be a local Garner High School graduate like myself.
But as we prepared for the event to rally NC State fans on behalf of Kangaroo Express, it definitely had a special place in my heart. They may have played in different decades, but Largemouth worked with former NC State basketball players Chris Corchiani and Will Roach to help give NC State the push it needs to win the $20,000 grand prize donation for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. I can't tell you how enthusiastic they both are, each took time out of their personal schedules to participate in our event and meet with NC State devotees.
Corchiani and Roach were warmly welcomed by the fans that came to the Kangaroo Express Campus Store on Avent Ferry Rd. in Raleigh. The first 50 attendees received a free autographed pink NC State Tradition Scarf, designed and produced by a company that Roach helped found. Fifteen percent of the proceeds of the special edition pink scarves benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
For media and public relations around the event, Largemouth coordinated an interview with NBC 17's My Carolina Today where Corchiani, Roach and Megan Smith from the Kay Yow Cancer Fund visited on set with host Sharon Delaney. They discussed NC State's involvement in the Battle for Bean Street, donned the pink scarves and told fans to stay away from "those other blue cups."
