During the course of my fall semester, I have spent roughly 40 business days as one of Largemouth's interns. As the semester is dwindling down and winter break is quickly approaching, I have had time to reflect about working in a full-service public relations firm for the past 16 weeks. From my time here, I can honestly say having an internship teaches you so much more than you will ever learn in the classroom. The experience I have gained thus far at Largemouth has undoubtedly been the most influential practice for my future in the public relations profession.

Being an intern, it is my job to learn. Here is a list of the top five things I have learned from interning at Largemouth this fall:

1. There is no such thing as too many questions—I have learned that is better to be sure about a task, than to do it incorrectly. No question is a stupid question, so speak up and ask!

2. Embrace every task as an opportunity to learn and to better yourself—Keep in mind that you do not know everything. Therefore, go above and beyond, even on the simplest of tasks, to challenge yourself and to produce the best work.

3. Don't be afraid to make mistakes—For me, writing to match the voice of my clients has been my biggest challenge. The drafts of my first press releases would come back covered in red marks. However, I was ensured I was always "off to good start," and that I would improve over time. And, I am proud to say that I am improving.

4. Keep an intern journal—Logging your time spent as an intern has proven to be very beneficial to me. Not only has it been helpful to look back to see what all I have accomplished, but the journal also is way to keep track of items used to build my portfolio.

5. PR is a team effort—Working at Largemouth has opened my eyes to just how much team work is involved in public relations. From brainstorming meetings to conference calls, no project is a solo venture. Instead PR requires collaboration of many people, because a group of creative minds is always better than one.

This is just the shortlist of the many things I have learned over the weeks at Largemouth. I am so thankful to be a part of the team here and I cannot wait to come back next semester to intern again! See you in January, Largemouth!
